**SHAMELESS PLUG**

If you like country music, here's your chance to get in on the ground floor of an up-and-coming so when he hits it big, you can flash your smug 1337 smile and say you were a fan of David Kroll before David Kroll was cool.

Although actually, he is pretty @#*& cool already.

Hm? Need more proof than a testimonial from a rabid fan?

Like Dierks Bentley? David's sound isn't too far off from Dierks'. He's got a young rough voice, a bit higher than Dierk with the same pleasant rasp. Very cowboy, very precise in spite of sounding exactly like he looks - jeans and tee shirts and messy blond curly hair. The curls are natural, by the way. It's a travesty that he cut them though, he was just too pretty for words when they almost touched his shoulders.

MOVING ON.

Beyond the looks and the voice, David's a talented songwriter. The songs you see on his MySpace were either written exclusively by him or co-written, and he's currently writing songs for other country artists under his label, Smokin' Grapes. He's got a very traditional swagger and swing, but he's got the wry humor and the hard-hitting danceable rhythms of newer country rock, alongside artists like Trace Adkins and Craig Morgan.

I've been to several of his shows, too. He's got an excellent band and his performance is topnotch. He's got a rabid linedancing following - especially 'down home' in his old stomping grounds - so be sure you stake out your spot on the dance floor before they get there, or they'll run you over!

Oh, dear god, and request "Alcohol Abuse," written by his buddy and mentor Billy Yates. The song's not on the MySpace, it's one he seems to perform at concerts only. But you CAN find it on a Billy Yates album if you look hard enough! That song is PURE GOLD. Just imagine "Ain't Goin' Down 'Til the Sun Comes Up," and how hard that sucker is to memorize, and run down a long list of different kinds of booze at that speed.

Yeah. And nobody wonders why I like it.
